Deficient Kidney Jing (Essence)
TONGUE: red, peeled PULSE: floating, empty, leather
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: 
children: poor bone development, late closure of the fontanelle, mental retardation, in adults: softening of bones, weakness of knees and legs, poor memory (long term memory), loose teeth, hair loss, premature graying of head hair, sexual dysfunction, low grade back pain.

Deficient Kidney Qi
TONGUE: pale tongue, white coat
PULSE: weak or thready 
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: soreness and weakness of the lumbar region, soreness and weakness of the knee joints, frequent urination, dribbling of urine at the end of urination, urinary incontinence, enuresis (bedwetting), night urination,
