KIDNEY IMBALANCES

Deficient Kidney Jing (Essence)
TONGUE: red, peeled PULSE: floating, empty, leather
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: 
children: poor bone development, late closure of the fontanelle, mental retardation, in adults: softening of bones, weakness of knees and legs, poor memory (long term memory), loose teeth, hair loss, premature graying of head hair, sexual dysfunction, low grade back pain. 
SOME COINCIDENT WESTERN MEDICINE DISEASES:
osteoporsis, impotence, aging, birth or developmental defects 

Deficient Kidney Qi
TONGUE: pale tongue, white coat
PULSE: weak or thready 
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: soreness and weakness of the lumbar region, soreness and weakness of the knee joints, frequent urination, dribbling of urine at the end of urination, urinary incontinence, enuresis (bedwetting), night urination, 
spermatorrhea (leaking of sperm and seminal fluid), clear or white vaginal disharge .
SOME COINCIDENT WESTERN MEDICINE DISEASES:
benign prostatic hypertrophy, degenerative joint disease, diabetes, asthma

Deficient Kidney Qi - Kidney Not Grasping Qi
TONGUE: pale
PULSE: weak, tight, deep
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: shortness of breath on exertion, rapid and weak breathing, difficulty inhaling, asthma, clear urination, sweating, cold limbs, cold limbs after sweating, swelling of the face, soreness of the lumbar region 
SOME COINCIDENT WESTERN MEDICINE DISEASES:
nephritis, arthritis, chronic bronchial asthma

Deficient Kidney Qi - Kidney Qi Not Firm
TONGUE: pale, 
PULSE: deep, weak
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: soreness and weakness of the lumbar region and knee joints, clear frequent urination, copiouc urination, weak urine flow, intermittent urine flow, fluidribbling at the end of urination, enuresis (bedwetting), night urination, premature ejaculation, nocturnal emissions without dreams, spermatorrhea
(leaking of sperm and seminal fluids), chronic vaginal discharge, prolapse of uterus, lack of will (esp. to will live), spiritual fatigue (e.g. “no point in living”)

depression, sexually transmitted disease, yeast infection, urinary dysfunction

Deficient Kidney Yin
TONGUE: red, no coat, cracks
PULSE: floating, empty, rapid
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: dizziness, tinnitus, vertigo, poor memory, deafness, night sweats, dry mouth, sensation of warmth in soles and/or palms, thirst, sore back, achey bones, nocturnal emissions, constipation, dark scanty urine

tuberculosis, bronchial ectasis, hyperthyroidism, nephritis, diabetes, optic atrophy

Deficient Kidney Yin - Fire Blazing
TONGUE: red , peeled, cracked, possibly red tip
PULSE: floating, empty, rapid
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: malar flush (red cheeks or redder than surrounding area), mental restlessness, night sweats, low-grade fever, sensation of warmth or heat in the afternoon, afternoon fever, insomnia, scanty dark urine, dry throat, soreness of the lumbar region, nocturnal emissions with dreams, excessive sexual desire, dry stools.

hypertension, mutiple sclerosis, urinary tract indection, chronic fatigue syndrome, infertility in women, menopausal symptoms, amenorrhea, excessive sex drive.

Deficient Kidney Yang
TONGUE: pale, swollen, wet 
PULSE: deep weak
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: soreness of the lumbar region, cold knees, weak knees, weak legs, bright white complexion, impotence, premature ejaculation, copious urination, scanty clear urination, edema of the legs, apathy, poor appetite, loose stools, infertility in women

apathy, chronic fatigue syndrome, periperal neuropathy, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, chronic bronchial asthma, benign prostatic hypertrophy, menopausal symptoms

Deficient Kidney Yang - Water Overflowing
TONGUE: pale, swollen, white coat PULSE: deep, slow, weak
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: edema - esp. of the legs and ankles, sensation of cold in legs and/or back, general sensation of cold, scanty clear urination.
