LUNG IMBALANCES

Deficient Lung Qi
TONGUE: pale, normal color PULSE: empty
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: shortness of breath, cough, watery sputum, weak voice, daytime sweating, dislike of speaking, averse to cold, “catches cold” easily, tiredness, bright white complexion.
SOME COINCIDENT WESTERN MEDICINE DISEASES:
asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), chronic fatigue syndrome, anemia, cor pulmonale, emphysema, bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, cardiac arrhythmia, coronary artery disease

Deficient Lung Yin
TONGUE: red, peeled, cracked PULSE: floating, empty, rapid
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: dry cough, dry cough with small amount of sticky sputum, blood-tinged sputum, low-grade fever in the afternoon, sensation of heat in afternoon or evening, night sweats, warmth or heat in the palms or soles, insomnia, dry mouth, dry throat, itchy throat,hoarseness .
SOME COINCIDENT WESTERN MEDICINE DISEASES:
cor pulmonale, bronchiectasis, bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, silicosis (accumulation of dust in the lungs), diptheria, tonsillitis, aftermath of febrile (feverish) illness, psoriasis

Dryness of the Lungs
TONGUE: dry PULSE: empty
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: dry cough, dry mouth, dry throat, dry skin, thirst, hoarseness

aftermath of febrile (feverish) illness, eczemza, psoriasis

Phlegm Heat Obstucting the Lungs
TONGUE: red body, thick sticky yellow coat
PULSE: slippery, rapid, full
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: barking cough, profuse yellow or green or dark sputum which is foul- tasting or foul-smelling

SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: cough, cough elicited by a scare, breathlessness, splashing sounds in the chest, vomiting of white watery frothy sputum, feeling cold.

Wind Cold Invading the Lungs
TONGUE: thin white coat PULSE: floating
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS: cough, fever, itchy throat, stuffed nose, runny nose with clear watery mucus, sneezing, cold aversion, occipital headaches, bodyaches.
